About the Body Compassion Blog
Cultivating compassionate relationships with food, body, and mind.
Mission
To provide uniquely compassionate stories, information, resources, and solidarity for people worldwide who are struggling to recover helpful relationships with their food, body, and mental health and for the loved-ones and health care providers who are supporting them on their journeys of recovery and self-compassion.
Vision
I envision a world where people in all bodies, regardless of size, shape, ability, skin color, age, gender, or sexuality, are accepted and treated with compassion by themselves and by society. I envision a world where people are able to peacefully eat and move intuitively and in which people are no longer plagued by body or mental health shame and stigma.
Guiding Values
- Compassion (including Self-Compassion)
- Social Justice
- Mental Health and Eating Disorder Recovery
- Body-Positivity/Fat Acceptance/Health at Every Size
- Authenticity and Vulnerability
History
I started this website on March 15, 2018. At that time, I was recovered from self-harm; in recovery from anorexia nervosa, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), body-focused repetitive behavior (BFRB), and perfectionism; and struggling a great deal with anxiety and depression.
My intentions in starting this blog were to
- Share my personal recovery journey in hopes of inspiring recovery among others;
- Promote the intuitive eating, anti-diet, body positivity, body acceptance, fat acceptance, and the Health at Every Size movements;
- Raise awareness about body politics and body diversity;
- Spread feminist messages; and
- Inspire self-compassion and compassion toward others.
